Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal
INGREDIENTS
3 cup rolled oats - we love One Degree Organic Sprouted Rolled Oats
4.5 cups milk - we use dairy but you can substitute almond milk or water
1/2 cup brown sugar
5 tablespoons organic maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
This recipe makes enough to feed our family of 4 breakfast for the entire week! This recipe is so delicious that even people who normally don’t eat oatmeal have loved it. I highly recommend trying it.
We do tinker with the sugar & syrup amounts sometimes to cut down on the sugar intake, but the above measurements are the levels I have found that work best for reducing from original recipe while still keeping a great taste.
WARNING: Do not skimp out on the organic maple syrup. A lot of recipes you can substitute items but using a product such as Mrs. Buttersworth’s syrup or one like it completely changes the flavor of this recipe.
Directions
Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and cook on medium low
Do NOT turn up heat too high with this recipe involving milk
Stir frequently to avoid sticking to the bottom of the pan
Cook until milk has absorbed to the thickness of your liking
For us that is about 20 - 25 minutes
Remove from heat and let it cool
