Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cup rolled oats - we love One Degree Organic Sprouted Rolled Oats

  • 4.5 cups milk - we use dairy but you can substitute almond milk or water

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 5 tablespoons organic maple syrup

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

This recipe makes enough to feed our family of 4 breakfast for the entire week! This recipe is so delicious that even people who normally don’t eat oatmeal have loved it. I highly recommend trying it.

We do tinker with the sugar & syrup amounts sometimes to cut down on the sugar intake, but the above measurements are the levels I have found that work best for reducing from original recipe while still keeping a great taste.

WARNING: Do not skimp out on the organic maple syrup. A lot of recipes you can substitute items but using a product such as Mrs. Buttersworth’s syrup or one like it completely changes the flavor of this recipe.

Directions

  • Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and cook on medium low

    • Do NOT turn up heat too high with this recipe involving milk

  • Stir frequently to avoid sticking to the bottom of the pan

  • Cook until milk has absorbed to the thickness of your liking

    • For us that is about 20 - 25 minutes

  • Remove from heat and let it cool
